In a recent episode of the Autocar podcast, automotive legend Gordon Murray revealed an exciting new chapter for Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA), hinting at a groundbreaking future that stretches far beyond the iconic T.50 and T.33 supercars. Murray confirmed that an entirely new car, built from the ground up, is set to debut in 2028. This new project marks a thrilling evolution after the conclusion of production for his current high-performance lineup.
“I don’t want to keep repeating the same formula,” Murray explained. “At the other end of that scale, the next car we begin production on, after the final version of the T.33 S, will be something completely different—an entirely new car designed from scratch.”
A Vision for Something Bold and Unique
While Murray remained tight-lipped about specifics, he hinted that this new creation would feature an entirely new design philosophy. Unlike the T.50 and T.33, which both sport mid-engine configurations, this upcoming vehicle promises to be “fundamentally different.” Speculation ranges from a front-engine coupe to a sleek sedan or even a shooting brake, but Murray quickly dismissed the idea of an SUV. What he did offer, however, was a tantalizing promise: “It will be the best of its kind— a car I’ve always wanted to create.”
True to Murray’s reputation for exclusivity, only 100 units of this new masterpiece will be built, ensuring that it remains an ultra-rare gem for automotive enthusiasts and collectors alike.
The Powertrain Innovation
As for the powertrain, it’s no surprise that the legendary Cosworth V12 engine, which has become synonymous with GMA’s design philosophy, will likely remain the beating heart of this new creation. However, Murray is exploring how to integrate hybrid technology into the design, but true to GMA’s ethos, he emphasized that any electrification would be minimal and essential. “Electrification will be kept to a minimum—only the absolute necessary parts,” Murray stated, ensuring that the car’s performance DNA remains uncompromised.
What’s Next for the T.33 S?
Before the highly anticipated new model arrives, fans can look forward to the T.33 S, which is set to be revealed next summer. The T.33 S will be a more track-focused version of the T.33, with significant enhancements to downforce and suspension settings. It promises to push the boundaries of performance even further before the production of the T.33 wraps up in 2028, making way for Murray’s next revolution in automotive design.
With his unwavering drive to innovate, Gordon Murray is poised to once again change the game. The automotive world eagerly awaits his next masterpiece—one that will surely captivate enthusiasts and collectors around the globe.
